Unit Overview;
Students will reach beyond the surface of rules and responsibilites to answer essential questions and create real world oppotunities to show they care.
Essential Questions;
What makes a community?
what can we do to treat others with kindness and show that we care?
How can one good deed from an ordinary first grader change the world?
What can we do to make a difference in our communities and the world?

Students will know/understand that;
community members are responsible to and care for each other. All community members have something to contribuute.

whole group will create K-W chart
independently students will write an oppinon piece with evidence or reason to support their oppinon.
Formative
Students give examples of asking and telling and facts and oppinon. Students then state oppinons and provide reason or evidence for their oppinon.
Summative
Students will write an oppinon about wheathter a classmate can make a difference in their family, school or community. Student introduces topic, state oppinons and supply evidence.
Performance Assessment-- Real World;
Students will create a plan and carry it out for home and school. Teacher charts student performance.
